Chris Report

(15-01-2001)

The common three words that you may have seen in Adelphi these few days over and over again at the front of the door at a few showrooms are – CES. They all have gone to the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas USA. As you know, CES comes once a year and it is held at the same city always. Let’s hope those who went there will bring back more goodies for our eyes to feast on….

To my surprise, you don’t have to go so far to get to see new products. In our Adelphi itself, I found something new to report to you. The Pan Pacific Sound Equipment showroom, Rotel introduced their first DVD players.

Rotel RDV-1080 & RDV-995 DVD Players

Rotel RDV-1080

Rotel RDV-1080

I was pleasantly surprise to see the Rotel DVD players. The RDV-1080 is DVD Audio ready and will be able to play DVD Audio disc up to the 24Bit/192kHz range in the DVD format. Of course, the RDV-1080 can play DVD Video, VCD, SVCD and CD.

The RDV-1080 uses the Meridien Loss Packing, a high quality digital format for DVD Audio with the compression ratio of about 2:1 support a 192kHz sampling rate 24Bit resolution. Other features include DTS and Dolby Digital and many many video features.

The Rotel RDV-995 is a straightforward DVD player with DTS and Dolby Digital. An audiophile DVD player that uses the same high quality components as their CD players and amplifiers.

These are first pictures you’ll see of the Rotel DVD players. They are not featured in their oversea catalogues. I think you can’t find them in their oversea web site either. I may be wrong because I could not find them before this report.

For more information about the Rotel DVD players, you can call Zack or Mr. Loh from Pan Pacific Sound Equipment in the Adelphi at #04-49/62 who are the agent for Rotel.

MARTIN ELECTRONICS…those who don’t know, they have moved to 175, Bencoolen Street, #01-47, Burlington Square next to Sim Lim Square. They have been relied on for years to repair our beloved loudspeaker cones when they were in Outram Park. Besides loudspeakers repairing, Mrs.Vong told me that they sell audio tube for your beloved valve amplifiers. They do sell excellent affordable amplifier kits for the keen beginners who want to try to build their own amplifiers.

For more information, you can reach Martin Electronics at Tel: 3364420.
