Can Bit88 help?

Dear Joe Lee,

Thank you for initiating 1388. It has been like a heaven for audiophiles. I have read thoroughly all your articles in Audiophiles' Home section and have tried out putting different materials (e.g. 1 cents, 5 cents, Jade, crystal) on different 'strategic' positions as you adviced.

As a result, my system's sound stage opened up and the solo singer's voice is focused at the centre. However, I sometimes feel that the sound is too upfront for certain recordings. When playing Cai Cin's "Yu4  Jian4" track 1 between 2 min to 3 min, her voice, although full of feelings, can become sometimes loud and sometimes soft, especially when I put a jade on the amp.

Besides, although the sound is focus at the centre when I play solo singer's song, classical music feels like coming separately from both speakers. Does this means that the sound stage is too wide? I am using a pair of petite size speakers, is there any way to improve bass? Besides, I feel that the depth is not enough. I have attached a figure showing how I place my system and the tweaking materials. Could you kindly give me some advice?

I am interested in some products your company sell - the Auric Illuminator. However, I could not find the $10 discound voucher in 1388 (I am a member). I would like it to be delivered to my place, but I am not at home during the daytime in weekdays. So, do you do delivery in the nightime or Saturday afternoon?

Last but not least, when will the new Bit88 be marketed? How much will it cost? Can it improve bass and depth of soundstage?

Dear Jen Yan, sorry for the late reply. Seems that your centre is a bit hollow and lack of control. Insufficient dynamic perhaps...

OK, try to hang or stick something right at the centre of the back walls to 'pull' the soundstage a bit backward and hopefully can create more solid image at the centre.

You can try a 5-cent coin, a piece of crystal or hang a silver ring...or combine. You have to test different heights in order to find the most suitable position.

If there is a hi-fi rack between the two speakers, you can place a ECC88 or 6922 tube right at the centre.

So, your 'petite' size speakers are on stands, right? Place a one-cent coin either on the bottom plate of the stand or on the floor (underneath the stand, right at the centre), this should be able to tighten up the bass greatly.

BIT88 shall reach us by the 2nd week of April, yes, you will find it very useful and it can make your system sounds 'BIG'...The retail price is fixed at S$182 per unit.

I can deliver the Auric Illuminator to you during the evening. Where do you live? 1388 member’s price is S$60 per set. You don’t need a discount coupon.

Dear Joe, I am glad to receive your reply, thanks! As what you said, my system
lacks dynamics for many other types of music, just good for vocals. I have already put a 5 cent coin at the middle of the 2 speakers and a 1 cent coin below the speakers. Probably I shall experiment combining the crystals and the silver ring with the 5 cent coin. Besides, will putting 2 to 3 five cent coins together at the centre helps? About the silver ring, where can I get it from? The hardware shop or jewellery shop? I have a hifi rack between the 2 speakers, but not in the middle, closer to the left side. So, can I still apply the ECC88 and 6922 tubes? By the way, apology for my naiveness, what are ECC88 and 6922 tubes?
