Simply amazing stuff by Dr. Jon.

I went down today (31-01) around 11.30, expecting to wait for this Doctor to do an operation on my pet cdp --- a marantz 63se.

He told me he will finish this babe @ 12pm. I agreed to come back around 12 pm. Indeed, although he finished the clock punctually he told me a slight fault in the op amp chip being noisy and it isn't the right kind to use for audiophile application. I was a little disappointed but he gave me a clear solution. He changed it!!

Finally, I was able to run it at home--approx.3 hrs ago!

My first impression was.. WOW!
Everything was much clearer.
Bass reach deeper and tighter.
There is defination, accuracy, there is life in the music!
What more can I say? <-- IS THAT MY CDP??
And I  thought that my CDP before the mod was good enough <--NEVER!.

I want to thank Dr. Jon for a good job done and his excellent attitude towards his customers.

3 cheers for Dr. Jon.

Hi Joe & Jon,

Thanks for the modification for my 2 CD players - The Marantz CD17KIS & the CAL Tercet Mk.3.

The improvement has been great, and I'm very pleased that I made the right decision to mod.

As for the LD player, I understand the reason (Jon) gives on not advisible to carry-on the mod; and appreciate the thoughtfulness of him.

Joe, once again, thanks for your tweaking on my room system; you are really a MASTER tweaker! I'll have my room sort out properly as per your advise; by then will invite you again.

Jon, can you pls let me know when your tools & parts are ready for my CDP's transport mechanism & power-cord upgrade; I'm  longing to see that happen. Thanks.

Hi,

Just received my creek cd43. After two hours I find that the soundstage is slightly deeper. Vocals sound clearer and more transparent. Bass line of pop and jazz is now more rhythmic. The tone colour has also changed. It becomes slightly more mellow and bass has a certain bloom and I have to take some time to get use to it. Have been listening to the light sounding Creek for so long. But there is a slight graininess in vocal, strings and sax and I guess it's because the components are not burned in yet. Keep you updated next week. TK, how's your 17KI? Maybe we should meet up and listen to both players again......hmmm and the char bee hoon.....

I also got my CD player (TEAC-9) modified by Dr. Jonathan Wong today at 1388 Technology. My one hour at 1388 was indeed very beneficial. Dr.Wong took the trouble to explain to me what he was doing, and at the same time cleared some of my doubts regarding Hi-Fi.

He even used the famous 'Auric Illuminator' to clean up my player's lens.

We test the player after the modification. At that moment I couldn't say much as I am not familiar with the piece of software. All I could said was that my player was working and Dr. Wong also pointed out that my player was tracking faster than before - almost immediately from any selected track as compared to 10 secs previously. He also advised me to let it run-in for one to two days.

Back at home, I let my player run-in for two hours using the Sheffield/XLO Test and Burn-in CD. Then I played Mary Black’s 'No frontiers'.

I could immediately hear the difference. The vocal has more focus, the singing was more mellower. Most important the background sounded more quieter. Infact before the modification it was indeed quite noisy.

When I played Willie Nelson - 'Stardust' my jaw dropped at the start of the guitar. I always like Willie Nelson for his natural and masculine voice. But I didn't know that he could sound more warmer and much more approachable.

Would also like to take this opportunity to Thank 'Kim' for making all the arrangement.

I got the opportunity to meet the famous Joe Lee. He also demonstrated to me the Bit88. I almost got the urge to buy the final prototype as I could hear brighter sound and wider soundstage.

If you are to ask me what is the most beneficial and sensible thing that I have done during this decade in respect to  Hi-Fi? Then my answer will be to pay $200 to 1388 Technology to get my CD modified. Don't take my word for it, just go down to 1388 Technology to have a look at the number of CD players on the waiting list.

Thank You Johnathan for everything.
