I respectfully suggest that you read the review of the First Sound Presence Deluxe Linestage at Soundstage.com. Go to Equipment Reviews, then Archives, then Preamps and Amps, and it's third in the list. What the author does, which is really great, and rare, is to give meaningful comparison to other top preamp contenders. First Sound was part of an outstanding system in the Green Mountain room at CES two weeks ago.

A little bit more about First Sound. Think most of us know about its passive preamp years ago. They've come up with active preamp about almost 2 yrs ago. In ascending order of it's preamp line: Presence, Presence Deluxe, Paramont and Ultimate Paramont. All of them are tube preamps with minimal number of tubes (good news for tube phobia), at most 4 small ones. But they uses huge capacitors inside. For Ultimate Paramont, just the power supply (left right separate chasis) has altogether 8 big caps; and another 8 inside the preamp. These 16 caps together has up to 556,000uF...!! This eclipses the total of most high end power amp! First sound is also very picky on components: caddock, vishay resistors, MIT RTX caps, etc... Price?? We'll have to wait for any possible local dealer to tell. Will there be any?
