100Kg of rice at 4 corners?

We know corners always give us problem. Will this tweak absorb standing waves at corners? Joe, what do you think?

Dear Powerman,

I assume the rice are in bags. Why rice? Why not sand? On second thought, rice bags are good as they can double up as your food storage, in case of riot or war, you can rest assured that you always have 400kg of rice in stock. Can I have your contact number? Just in case?

In order to reduce standing wave at the corner, at least one out of the three surfaces (floor, backwall and side wall) should preferrable be absorbant. Say if the floor is carpeted, or you can use a 3 feet mattress to line along the back wall from one end to the other. Another effective way is to place some soft fabric such as huge thick cushion or bolsters at the corner. One of our members, Hong Wee has employed both methods and the sound from his hi-fi room is one of the best I have heard regardless of the not so expensive equipment used.

Rice bag in fact also work....

Sand can slip through the bag and cause dust all over the places. Any way, rices are not bug-free as well. My wife doesn't mind me placing 4x100kg rice bags at the corners if I get her a rolex gold!

My room encountered strong colouration on thick female/male vocal when play JMLab double woofers speakers, but Proac III works well in this room. The Proac is Focus but JMLab, 2x7 woofers each side, is muddy at mid. Therefore I'm thinking of putting large and bulky stuff to convert the low freq to energy.

I saw the posting of using mattress, it's innovative. Will this tweak absorb the upper-mid and high too? Which I don't want it to happen.

This is addressing Powerman's concern about standing wave at room corners:

He may want to experiment placing a piece of computer mouse pad (cut triangular shape to fit room corner with soft pad facing out as shown in attached diagram). Behind the pad he may want to put a roll of toilet paper or newspapers (not a must depending on how bad the standing wave is).

Happy listening!

Dear Powerman,

I would like to pay you a visit after I returned from my KL trip, maybe sometime in the second week of December if it is okay with you. It is better for me to actually see and hear such that I can offer useful tips to help you resolve your problems once and for all.

Perhaps Mr. Pen would like to join me too? Please email me if you are interested in my offer. Cheers!
