So we've all been there, heard this, seen that.

Which items really stood out from the crowd as far as you are concerned?

Let me start off with a limited list:

Best speakers of show: MBL flagship model, Eggleston  Andra
Best projection system:  Barco
Most striking sound potential: SACD
Best source: Marantz SA-1 (despite non-optimal conditions)
Worst demo of good component:  VPL-VW10 projector, Sony Hall
Honorable mention for v.good sound:  Burmester equipment

Anyone interested to add their own views on the above categories and others? e.g.

Most musical system
Best overall sound
Best service
Best amp
Best value system/offers
Best display layout
Lousiest sound
Worst demonstration style/programme
Rudest/most aloof exhibitor
Most cramped room, etc

I have to agree with Mr.Pen that SIGHT & SOUND 2000 was really disappointing, major brands did not turn up such as Krell and Mark & Levinson, two of the biggest names in the HiFi industry and there are still many that did not turn up. Most rooms did not produce a good sound and in some room it was quite offending, I know that you shouldn’t expect too much from HiFi Show because of room constraint, power supply, limited time for setting up and of the crowd that is creating a lot of noise but some extremely expensive gears are producing bad sound, example Wilson Audio Grand Slamm and Eggleston Andra. Though there are some rooms which have good sound example MBL, Jeff Rowland Combo (Adelphi showroom even better), Ayre, Halcro and Aerial Acoustics Combo and the Cobra Connection Showroom was producing very good vocals, just the rare few rooms which had good sound. Though there are some other rooms which I wouldn’t know how good it sound because either it was not open or there was a big crowd!!

Good or worst you have to be an invited guests (lucky only one such room, imagine if most rooms did the same thing). Well, I hope future HiFi Show will do better, to attract audiophiles instead of discouraging them.
