Not only the washers, the screws as well! |
Mr. Pen: (14 Nov 2000)
In the special news on 1388.com, Joe told members to use copper washer for tweaking. He suggested that members can just try the screws at the four corners instead of all the screws. From my own experience, I found that if all the washers and screws of CDP and amplifier were to be changed to copper ones, the effects will be much better.
A few years ago, I even changed all the screws and washers that fasten the tweeter to the speakers to copper ones, the effects were amazing. Even though I have to roam around the whole Singapore looking for suitable screws and washers, the rewards were justifying. Just to share some of my experience with fellow audiophiles, cheers!

Ben’s feedback: (16 Nov 2000)
I read from a magazine where one of the reviewers found tremendous improvement by replacing the origial speaker binding post of a very high end power amp from stock posts to Cardas ones.
I have a friend of mine who's using a very high end system. One day out of curiousity, he opened up the amps and was shocked to find all screws are magnetisable. Then he probed further and another bigger shock followed. Screws used inside the amps to fasten some copper bar (for signal passage) were also magnetisable and in fact magnetised!! Then he started exploring screws. He even asked a goldsmith to tailor make pure silver screws. He liked the ultra high but the timber suffered. He tried pure copper which is much better than brass but too prone to oxidation....He finally ended up with some steel, some copper, some silver..etc and I think his next project might be titantium...?? |

I read with interest how copper washers and screws can enhance the sound quality of hifi equipment. I would appreciate if Mr Pen would like to share where to source for the copper washers and screws. Thanks.

Danny’s feedback: (21 Nov 2000)
I read with interest on this topic.
As a general guide, use material that is not that hard and non-magnetizable (non-ferrous?). I am glad that there are people out there who are maniac enuff to experiment on this matters. Steel nuts and washers are CHEAP, thus OEM mfg uses them - Simple reason. Biggest improvement will be on those things that are magnets or magnetizable like spk drivers. |

Mr. Pen again: (23 Nov 2000)
Victor wants to know the address of the hardware shop from which I bought my screws and washers.
Today I purposely went to the shop and obtain their business card, their address is: Boey Huat Hardware (S) Pte Ltd. Block 31 Kelantan Road #01-20 They are wholeseller of all types of screws and nuts. You name it they have it. There are many other shops in the same block of flats or in the Kelantan Road area selling a lot of interesting items which audiophiles may find them useful to tweak their systems. |
