Digital cable or optical cable

Dear Dr. Jon Wong,

I am using a AFA digital coaxial cable from my DVD player to Marantz SR-5000 to get DTS/AC3 output. Is this the best way to do it?

My regular hi-fi shop recommends coaxial cable to optical cable for 5.1 output, is it true?

Hi Edward!

There is nothing wrong with your current setup.

If the salesman recommends digital coaxial cable than optical cable, he is telling you the truth. Optical cables sound really bad to me.
