How do I know my CD player is OK? Dear Dr. Jon Wong, I want to upgrade my old Philips Bitstream CD player, will your upgrade be better than buying a new player? Also, how can I know that my CD player is in good condition and is worth upgrading? Jimmy |
Hi Jimmy!
If you sell your player away now, say for about S$200, and then use another S$250, you can at most buy a mid priced CD player. As such, there is no way you can expect top notch performance from such CD players. The upgrades will definitely given you a performance found in CD players many times the price. Why not for just S$250? It is possible for non technical people to check their condition of their CD player! You can buy a CD-CHECK CD which tests the tracking performance of your CD player. It is a very good tool to access the tracking ability of your transport, CD or CD-ROM drive. Before your CD runs out of warranty, you can find out if your CD player needs a free tuning from the service department. Also, I find that the CD is able to tell good players from really bad ones. It is not surprsing to find so so transport mechanisms in very expensive players. You can use the CD to safe guard your investment. 1388.com will try to offer members the CD-CHECK soon. Please watch out for Joe Lee Says! |
