CD players with and without tubes Hi Jon! I'm interested in the CD clock upgrade. I have bought a modified Marantz Tojeb CD-38 player (highly reviewed in the Audio Review website) from Netherlands with tube buffer output. I have upgraded the Philips JAN 6922 to Siemens 7308 tubes. Will my CD player benefits from upgrading the clock? I also interested in upgrading my existing Marantz CD-67SE to both the analog and clock upgrade options. It could provide a good comparison to the Tojeb player. When will be the service be available and any address to send in my set for the modifications? Thanks Victor |

Hello Victor, Thanks for your support!! By interacting with audiophiles in Singapore, I am convinced that in Singapore there are many people who really dare to venture into HiFi, you are on good example! You have reached as far out as to Holland! Victor, the problem with CD is like this. It contains two parts, analog and digital. But usually, people paying attention to analog overlooks the digital system, and people designing the digital system overlook the analog section. They are completely two different schools. I believe your player will be vastly improved if the digital section is left as it is from the factory. A 50ppm crystal with no controlled temperature can cause a lot of problems and loss of signals. No matter how good the analog section is, there is no help. Regarding the choice of valves, the important thing is low noise. I believe yours is in a SRPP configuration but I need to confirm. Personally, I would prefer 6DJ8 as they then to be more ‘musical’ than 6922. Anyway, you can always have a few valves for comparison. The special crystals from UK are coming in around October. Our address is in the contact us section. We are at Jurong East International Business Park, next to Creative Building! Cheers! |
