TIPS on using Auric Illuminator

Dear Dr. Jon Wong,

I am still waiting for my order of auric illuminator, but can you please elaborate how good this thing really is?

Hello Patrick!

Thank you for writing in!

When we first received the shipment from USA yesturday, we were very shocked. THERE WAS ONLY ONE BOTTLE OF GEL IN EACH BOX! We thought, oh no! I thought there should be TWO?

Joe was worried and tried to contact USA. Due to time difference, the reply only came in the next morning! That was what they said : ‘ The old packaging has TWO 1oz bottles, but the new packaging has ONE 2oz bottle. Sorry for the confusion!’ What a joke!

Of course, the bottle is much bigger! Anyway, this means it is a fresh shipment!

Last night, I bought one bottle back home to try. For the past years I have had vast experiences with all sorts of CD treatments, from lens cleaner to Audio Technica scratch treatment, and SNAKE oils (American phrase for super wonder oil) but the results were never that convincing. Since 1992, my favourite was using Auto Glym Telfon car polish for metallic paint. I used it for the car, and remaining for CD! But some car wax could deteriorate the CD, by making the surface more dull.

But the auric illuminator is very strange. For the two CDs I treated, Kenny G Classic and Chai Qing, the treatment REALLY made the CD sounded more dynamic and the high frequency more refined. I tried it out on my PC audio system, the sound differences were already there! I put the CD on my system, and was very pleased. The effect was like my 12AX7 tubes have been upgraded to new Gold Aero Platinum type. Shocking, but real.

I used some lens cleaning fluid to quickly remove the auric treatment on the CD. I played it again and it really showed how effective the treatment was. The sound became more compressed, less airy and lacked dynamics. Oh dear, looks like I have to put it on all the CDs I have, and it will be a tough job.

After dinner and a good shower, I really sat down and listened to the differences. Beijing Pops track ‘Hong Dou Chi’ really never sounded that much better, without anything done to the system. The thing was, it was about 10:00pm, the time when my system would sound slightly inferior due to power supply quality (everyone is watching the news). In terms of definition, separation and tonality, the whole spectrum was improved. Hearing is believing.

I quickly applied the auric illuminator on two DVD -> Matrix and Saving Private Ryan, both American code 1 discs. From the monitor it was obvious that the outlines were improved. Especially for Matrix, the track when Neil was firing the chain gun from the helicopter, the bullet shells were so much more vivid! Also, the sound was more detailed and less muffled. Saving Private Ryan’s sound effects were much improved, especially the bass extention. In the beginning starting trailers where the soldier were walking single file, with the background showing the shelling, I already could feel the bass was very much submerged.

I could not see any improvement on some poorly made VCDs. But on several VCDs such as Armageddon, the picture is clearly more sharp and detailed.

Near mid night, I tried it on some PC CD ROMs which I access frequently. I did not find any improvement in access speed. I have not tried the performance of auric illuminator on damaged or scratched discs. However, I do not expect the auric can improve on scratched discs. There are some disc repair fluids that work on scratched. I suppose I can treat the CD with those scratched treatment, and then use auric illuminator OVER it. I have not tried that yet.

Good luck and Enjoy!
