Lenght of Speaker Cables or Interconnects? Dear Dr. Jon Wong, Why most of the speaker cable are come in 5ft pair, is this is the minimun lenght for speaker cable inorder it to peformance at it best or other factor. Can we shorten it or lengthen it? As for interconnect, does the length affect the acoustic reponse of the speaker? What type of tube would you recommend for the MF X10-D buffer amp with more sweet and honest sound. Best Regard. Casrol |
Hello Andy,
If the speaker cable is longer, then it has very high capacitance. For a very piercing amp and speakers, of course it helps! But for an already dull and slow system, do you not think it is worse? I think a speaker cable should be reasonably short. This is to reduce the resistance and the capacitance. I used to try out 14.5 ft pair. I ended up chopping the 14.5 ft into shorter peices and enjoyed much more! For interconnect, the same theory applies. However, I feel that 1.5m pair sounds better for most make of cables. I do not know why! If you are using the 6922 type, it will sound a bit more clean and accurate. But if you like it more sezy and seductive, I suggest some old Mullard 6DJ8, or other old 6DJ8. I use the 6DJ8 more than 6922. |
