Is the U connector degrading the amplifier’s sound? Dear Dr. Jon Wong, I have problem reaching Dr Hi-Fi through the form you provide and I hope you can foward this to him. I am currently using the Roksan Caspian integrated amplifier. I strongly suspect that the U-rings connecting the pre-out and power in to be an area of great signal loss. I like to improve the sound of my amp rather than spending money on a new one. Will it help if I substitute the u-rings for a short, quality pair of interconnect? How should I terminate the cables since the original u-rings do not employ grounding on the RCA posts? Or is it better for me to short the path internally? Or do you know of any high grade u-rings commercially available? Hope you can help me. Thanks. Lawrence |
Hi Lawrence,
I can understand your feeling about the U connectors. To be frank, adding a new pair of short inter connect may not really improve things. At times it could make it worse! This is because you are introducing more unwanted resistance and capacitance, which is bound to happen for a coaxial cable. You do not have to worry about grounding issue, because they are all grounded together internally in the amplifier. This is my suggestion: Wait for a couple of months more, and 1388.com will lauch and introduce a revolutionary product! This product uses VALVE and PSYHCO-ACOUSTICAL technologies. I would suggest you take out the U connector, and include our product in your signal path. I assure you the sound quality of your Roksan will be improved at least A FEW FOLDS. The cost? It will make you laugh. This device also comes with a bypass mode, for you to test out our research results in high end audio. If you cannot wait, then why not you send a personal e-mail to us. We can arrange for ‘Beta Test’ of our prototype? This is a limited offer only. I assure you, once installed, you will not be able to remove our device! |
