DVD DTS Compatibility Problem Dear Dr. Jon Wong, I have a problem when I play Steely Dan - Two Against Nature DVD in DTS mode. The audio is distorted and the video flickers with horizontal lines. But if I select Dolby Digital 5.1, it works fine. I tested it with a friend's DTS system and it works fine with DTS. I suspected it could be due to my Denon DTS decorder AVD 1000 which is connected to a Denon AVC3800 amplifier. Other DTS DVDs, like Eagles, Blues Brothers 2000 works fine. I have even swapped a new DVD disc from the shop that I have bought from and ot is the same problem. I am baffled as video is also affected which it should not as DTS is for audio and not video. Hopefully you can offer some advice if it could be due to the firmware in the Denon AVD1000 decorder. Thanks. Philip |
Hi Philip! Sorry for the late reply! I played the DVD title on a few non Denon players, and the outcome was none like what you described. What I suspect is the particular encoding on the DVD has caused some decoding problem on your particular set. Please kindly contact the local Denon agents and have them to check your set. I do not think it is just the firmware, it could be a fault. Denon needs to get the licensing and everything must comply to the DTS standard. My DVD player refused to play a code 3 disc. Although it is just that single disc it refuses to play, I still had my DVD player replaced. |
