CD Player Upgrade

Dear Dr. Jon Wong,

I have a Pioneer PDS 500 CD player. Please advise me what type of upgrade I can do to my player. And where can I get a CD upgrade?

Hello Gui,

For any CD player, there are two types of upgrade that can instantly transform them into high performance players comparable to any expensive players:

1. Upgrade the output analog stage using Analog Device AD847 ICs and optimal use of component values/quality.

2. Improve the stability of the master clock of the player (16.9344Mhz) to low jitter 5ppm type.

We are conisdering providing CD player upgrade service to interested parties. The upgrade will include the latest high tech ICs and a new clock. The total charge could be lower than S$200. In comparison, many companies charge over S$300 just to provide a stable clock. Please do watch out for this possible service.
