Power filter Dear Dr. Jon Wong, For power supply in Singapore is it neccesary to use a power filter, if not i rather spent my money on power cord instead. And which brand of power should use for mid-end product. Is it safe to purchase used product, as I know that all tranistor product have life, especially the len of a CD player. How true are this? Presently I'm using a pair of transitor Pre & Power Amp, I heard by changing the Pre to Valve Pre it will produce tube sound and it is not neccessary to change the Power Amp, how true is this? Hello Casrol!
It is hard to recommend mid priced and good power cord because some power cords have subtle improvement, some have great but not neccessary good changes, and very few are excellent value for money. The best option is always to audition the power cord before you commit. It usually is a much better sounding combination-> a valve pre amp with a transistor amp, than a transistor pre-amp partnered with a valve power amp. This seems to fit into the criterior of an ideal amplifier -> very high input impedance and very high output current capability. You can achieve an equivalent improvement without changing the pre-amplifier. You can use a valve buffer after the CD player, or a valve buffer in between the pre and power amplifier. Musical Fidelity offers such a device. Also, we will soon introduce a sound processor that provides both tube sound and patented psycho acoustic digital signal processing. Please kindly watch out. |
