The high seems muddy Dear Doc, My system consist of CEC t1X CD Transport, Audio Note Dac 2, Bat VK3i Pre-amplifer, Cary Audio SLM 100 mkV Power Amplifier (100 watts 4/8ohms), Apogee Stage loudspeakers, Kimber KCAG Interconnects, 4tc Speaker Cables and Audioquest AC Power Cords. My queries: All my equipment are new except the Apogee (almost new). The midrange/bass one of the best I have heard. But at times the highs seem to be muddy on both side of the speakers. My room is 24 feet by 14 feet. The speakers are placed on the 14 feet side due to windows on the other side. The speakers are 4 feet from the rear wall and 72 inches apart. The volume on my preamplifier is at most 30/65. Nagasena Koh |
Dear Mr Goh, You system should sound very transparent and airy. However, there is some concern on the power amplifier. Are you using the triode mode? Are you driving the speakers hard? The manufacturer recommend 100 hours break in time. It could be longer for the sound to gives its full potential. Do not forget there are other components that needs breaking in as well. You can try to get two fairly thick glass slabs. Place you power amplifier the stable glass slabs. You can try on other components such as the DAC or the pre-amp. Finally, avoid putting anything made of paper (like books) on the equipment. |
