Nail polish and Telephone Alert

Dear Dr Jon,

I heard that those expose area of terminal and plug, if applying a layer of finger nail polish it will prevent it from stain and oxide. How true is this?

As you had mention that to lift the speaker cable from ground level it will improve the sound quality, is it possible to shorten the length of the speaker so that it hang inbetween the amp and the speaker. Does this method work?

Any one if received any telephone call which there are from so and so company and doing a line check and request you to dail 90# to complete the test, pls do not follow it will acess to your phone line and make international call and it will forward to bill. Pls alert all the members if possible.

Hello Andy,

Applying nail polish seems to mess up the equipment than doing any good! If you really want to prevent the terminals from oxidation, please use a liquid called ‘Cramolin’ which is a spray on liquid you can buy in Sim Lim Towers. The liquid was highly reviewed in The Audio Amatuer in US, about 10 yeras ago.

Long time ago, I read from a Hong Kong magazine that a father and daughter both enjoyed HiFi. They used hot glue and tape on free terminals to prevent oxidation, which I think is less messy than nail polish. If you can find Cramolin, use that instead. Glue or tape might make the sound more ‘soft’.

Regarding the speaker cables, I once tried the same method. The important thing is you still need to secure the cables, using supports made of wood. Shortened cables is better than long cable runs.

I am not sure about your information. But it is posted here to alert all members. So what should we do? Just hang up? Perhaps I should call Joe’s home now and try!
