How to apply the illuminator on CD?

Dear Dr Jon,

Today I went down to get the Auric Illuminator from Audio 88. Cliff, the shop person showed me one CD that's treated with it. The gel is smeared onto the surface like lacquer, sweeping outwards, with uneven surface, and apparently quite different from the instruction in the box. The boss instructs to buff the disc until the surface is CLEAR, SHINY and free of HAZE???? What does that mean actually??

How to do it right?

Hello Ang,

Well, if you think of polishing the CD until it is shiny and perfect, then it might not be the thing to expect.

I followed the instructions from the manufacturer. Some of my CD/DVDs were shiny as they were new. But for some older CDs, it did show some uneven smearing which could be resolved by a more generous amount of gel on another round of application. It really depends on the state of the original surface, and how much gel you use, I suppose.

I do not expect the CD surface to be as faultless as my camera lenses. The CD should not look hazy either, and the much improved sound should prove its presence and effect.
