Replace Marantz CD17 MKII

Dear Dr. Jon Wong,

My system consists of:

• CDP/LP: Marantz Cd-17mk2
• Pre/Power: Chord Cpa3200 and Cpm 1200c
• Speakers: Kef Refernece model 4
• Cables: Audioquest Diamond and Midnight
• Room Size: 5*7
• Music Preference: all kind except blue

I am looking to buy a new cd player but I can not decide whether buying a cd player like Marantz Cd-7, Electrocompanient Emc-1 or buying a seperate like Muse model 8 and 296 combo. Which cd do you think it will suit to my system. And also cable would it be much better to upgrade it to Cardas golden reference or Kimber bifocal XL. Thanks

Hello Tom,

I suppose you have listed several good players, but your old CD player is still a competant performer.

If it is still playing properly, then my suggestion is why not you let us install the 1388 super clock modification and the analog stage upgraded. The money spent is much cheaper than upgrading the player. Also, you will not be disappointed with the outcome.

As for the cables, I would prefer the Kimber because of your Chord system. Having said that, I also highly recommend out Audience AU24 cable. You can test out the two cables and see which sounds better for you!
