Hissing sound from Mirage Dear Dr. Jon Wong, My system consists of:
Lately, I heard low hissing sound originating from both speakers (possibly from mid-range cones not tweeters) even when volume control is turned to zero. The hissing sound is similar to that when playing from a analogue source (LP). It occurred after a loud session of vocal music (volume at 11.30 position)for over 4 hours non-stop. Could you please advise what causes the hissing sound and how to eliminate it? Thanks Peter |
I suspect your pre-amp volumn control is aged and need servicing. Normally, when the volumn is turned to zero, there should be nothing. The hissing could also be due to some fault in electronics circuit. You mentioned using quiet line to solve your problems. I suppose it is not a good solution. Line noise cannot get into the system so drastically. If you can, try to use a plug fitted with two 0.33uf 600V capacitors and plug into the wall socket. If this does not help, the quiet also cannot do any better. The best bet is still to get a qualified person to check your system with a meter. |
