Amplifier keeps tripping

Dear Dr,

Here is my system:

  • CDP/LP: Sony DVD
  • Pre/Power: Yamaha Receiver 2070
  • Speakers: KEF
  • Cables: normal interconnects
My Yamaha amp has this strange problem ie. tripping during home movie playback. When I turned the volume to the one quarter position, I am able to receive the sound.

But when I increased it from that level onwards, it will trip.

Any idea what's wrong???

Hello Lawrence!

I suspect the following:

1. Your source has a d.c. output and the amplifier is DC coupled, so it clips when it sense the d.c.

2. Your amplifier needs to have the d.c. offset checked and recalibrated.

I think the best bet is to send your amp for a check up!
