Old players for Upgrade

Hi Joe/Jon,

My system consists of:

  • CDP/LP: Sony LD player
  • Pre/Power: Yamaha Rx-v496
  • Speakers: Mirage FRX-7
  • Cables: usa design spk cable
  • Room Size: living rm
  • Music Preference: rock and pop

Can I know whether if I bring my 2 years old Marantz Cd-46 cd-player for modification, will they be any significant improvement in sound as this Cd player is a pretty low end cd-player by Marantz?

Also how long will it take for the modification and how much?

Dear Jason,

I would not recommend you to upgrade this player. This is because the transport might not be reliable anymore, depending on how much you have used it.

My suggestion is you should sell this player away for a used DAC. Something between $400-$300 would serve you well. Attach it to your Sony LD if it has a digital output stage.
