Recently, I bought some EL 34 tubes (Brand: Svetlana) to replace my current power amp tubes which started to give way as I can listen from the speaker when I play the CD.

The power amp requires 4 EL 34 tubes and 2 12AX7 tubes, but I thought to try out the Svetlana brand which my friend recommended, hence, I only bought two to try out the sounding. To my surprise, when I turn on the power amp, one of the tube which I replaced the old one did not light up. Hence I went on to switch back the original ones back to the amp. But this time round, all the tubes did not light up, I can even smell that there was something burning (I hope is the fuse), hence I immediately turn off the amp.

May I know, what went wrong ? Must I replace all the tubes at one goal ? Could it be due to the rating, I'm not sure.

Your advice, please.

Svetlana tubes are very good and rugged. They should not fail when you install them.

I suspect poor contacts and connections as the first cause.

Your amplifier might be having the heater filaments connected in series. If you do not connect one or two tubes, or connected them improperly, there is a open circuit and hence the circuit will not work.

If you smelt something, then something must had burned. I do not know what it is. You cannot smell burned fuse so it could be more serious.

My suggestion is you get the agent or a qualified technician to check things for you!
