Dear Joe,

I read your comments on the Au24 Loudspeaker Cable with interest. I have a few comments.

First, as you know the cables you mentioned having more "weight" cost around 4 times the price of the Au24 cables. I am very familiar with the sound of these "weighty" cables. At one time I used this brand exclusively. It was the bass quality that turned me against them. After living with them for an extended period I eventually realized the bass was hard and unnatural and caused listener fatigue.

Did the Au24 cables have at least 50 to 60 hours of use before the comparison? Once the Au24have sufficient break-in time the bass becomes much more focused. The difference then is that the Au24 reproduces bass in a natural, more balanced way. I find this to be much truer to the music than the more powerful, impressive bass of some other cables. If you listen to a really good set of headphones and then compare the cables I'm sure you will realize the v is closer to the original.

Excessive detail and noticeably powerful bass are caused by time domain problems. A low frequency time smear often shows itself as "powerful bass." This is because the bass signal is extended in time. It is not actually louder just smeared. If you were to measure the frequency response of both cables I'm sure they would measure the same in the audio band.

Don't let the size fool you. The Au24 cables most likely have much lower impedance than the cables you compared them to. It is impedance, not DC resistance which matters. High price and large size are not an indicator of quality. It is partly the small size of the Au24 which makes it sonically superior to larger, more expensive cables. As far as price is concerned, I have not yet heard a cable at any price which is the equal of the Au24 cable.

Actually, I am gratified that the Au24 "lost out in weight." I have never tired of listening to the Au24 cables. I cannot say that about the "other" cables. I would rather have a more accurate illusion of real music than the "hi-fi" experience of excessive bass.

Thank you for your support of audience products.

Sincerely,

Richard
