The Star on the top floor of the International Sound & Sight Exhibition is the world's first SACD & DVD-Audio player, Pioneer DV-S733A player and the Dynaudio Evidence Temptation Loudspeaker System.

The Dynaudio Evidence with just a single amplifier gives a holographic soundstage quality that normally takes numerous amplifiers to drive a loudspeaker this size. The sound just flow effortlessly from top to bottom.

Audiophiles are really getting everything they want this year. Two audio shows and now the Pioneer DV-S733A player. A player that gives you every digital formats available on one equipment. It has 12-bit/108Mhz processing and 12-bit Video D/A converter. Built-in DTS/Dolby Digital decoder too. What more can anyone ask?

Good sound can be heard in room 604 coming from Silverline SR-12 loudspeaker system by Audio 88. The latest models SR-12 & SR-17 are stand mount loudspeaker displaying details and dynamics that were very good. They were using the Blue Circle Electronics, which could have some influence on the overall sound quality.

With more than 60 rooms, I believe that this year show was much better than last year. Congratulation to the organizers and keep up the good work and I hope that next year would be even more exciting, bigger and better than this year.

Here are the top ten components of the International Sound & Sight Exhibition 2001. Not in order of merit they are,

SONY DVP-NS900V / SACD - DVD VIDEO PLAYER.
PIONEER DV-S733A / SACD - DVD-AUDIO/VIDEO PLAYER.
HARMONIX PAT 777 SINGLE-ENDED 300B VACUUM TUBE POWER AMPLIFIER.
PMC MB2-XBD LOUDSPEAKER SYSTEM
BRYSTON 14B-ST POWER AMPLIFIER.
dCS VERDI SACD TRANSPORT / ELGAR PLUS D/A CONVERTER.
NORTH STAR DESIGN M192 UPSAMPLER/DECODER.
WILSON BENESCH DISCOVERY
AUDIO SPACE SA-PRE-1 PREAMPLIFIER.
DYNAUDIO EVIDENCE TEMPTATION LOUDSPEAKER SYSTEM.

Just when you thought you could go home to digest all that of the International Sound & Sight Exhibition, the following week came the ACE EXPO 2001 at the SICEC, Suntec City. The Audiophile Showcase at the ACE EXPO 2001 was a totally different experience from that of the show at the Le Meridien Hotel the week before.

..........................................................................................................................................

Audio exhibitors were located on various levels. Since it was free admission show, there was only a board that shows the layout of the exhibition. No booklet to guide you through the whole show. But I think that the rooms or function halls of the Suntec City Convention Centre are more ideally suited for an audio event than the small room of a hotel. Exhibitors are able to bring in more static display audio components for the consumers to see.

As you can see this Norman Audio room is large enough to have the range of Martin Logan Electrostatic Loudspeaker System on one side and the Avalon Loudspeaker range on the other side. Consumers are able to look up close their favourite audio component without being crowd around by others.

You can take a look at the new Wilson Audio Sophia Loudspeaker System up close. They sounded so much better than they did in the Le Meridien Hotel room last week. I feel that this show has in the making of something very big in the near future. Some how the Suntec City rooms gave better room acoustics and the appropriate size for the exhibitors to really show off their equipment and their capabilities.

I hope that the organizers can built on the potential of this year show and come up with a better one next year. That would be a great bonus for us audiophiles to have two very different show every year. Audiophiles rejoice...
