During this very serious bleak economy period that we all hate, I guess besides those selling bubble teas, most of us are being affected to a certain extent. In order to survive, 1388 has no choice but to follow 2001's most popular trend like many other businesses - no more 5 'C' but two: Cut Cost! May be we shouldn't qualify ourselves as a "dotcom" anymore as we had retrenched our web design team from three down to one and recently the updating activities of our main site were getting lesser and lesser... Besides those 'standard' financial problems that all of us are facing what hurt us most is, since the "911" incident suddenly all our columnists became inactive. Everybody including myself just doesn't have the mood to write. That's why you haven't seen any posting of new articles for quite a while. 1388 dotcom seems dead, everybody out there said.
Since it is very near to where I live and so the petroleum cost also reduced to half. Other than that, no more entertainment expenses too and this is the hardest for me to swallow. We were also instructed to look for more products that can sell in order to, hopefully, generate more income. We are not greedy people. What we are looking for is only something that can sure-sell like hotcake even without any promotion, as we simply don't have any advertisement budget. So, is there any suggestion from any of you? Other than Bubble Tea?
Readers, groaning is just my habit and please do not take it seriously. You see, sometimes I may worry but I never worried to death. After all these years of having no luck, poor (occasionally very, very poor) and unsuccessful in business, I was numb. Even thoughI have been through too many ups and downs (much more downs than ups) in my pathetic life, there are many interesting incidents too. Unfortunately there weren't anything like winning the BIG SWEEP or TOTO... not even once! If I had given up fighting 10 years ago, found myself a steady job such as being a hi-fi salesman, what would life be? (Come on Joe, you can't even speak Hokkien!)
Recently I read from somewhere a very powerful quote, as usual, all quotes in understandable English strike me tremendously. This one once again reinforce my fighting spirit and I wish to share with some of you: "The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can't find them, make them." (George Bernard Shaw). I always believed that in order for a Sagittarius like me to succeed in business I must bend the rules slightly in order to be able to introduce some fresh ideas to stale business practices and hopefully I can find a new route. I don't mean robbing the bank but for everyone, not necessary a Sagittarius, there must be someway out even during the most severe situation ... When God closed the door, He leaves a window open. As I've always said, you will survive... so long you are not on the 18th floor.
I guessed by now for those readers who know my style too well they can already sensed that sales talk has started... Come on Joe, stop the crap... nowadays we are all getting poorer and we have to save for the rainy days. Tomorrow is even going to be cloudier than today, that's what the Government say...

I am just a small potato... Nowadays even though materials tweaking in audio world is no longer a wild shenanigan that were being frowned upon or warded off as pure nonsense like 10 years ago; and even though I am always regarded as the 'Guru' in this area by numerous audiophiles whom either like or dislike me as I seemed to know all the answers while sometimes I was just bluffing, I must admit that playing around with different gems to find the best tweaking materials and the most ideal combinations of different gems was just my hobby. The idea that this hobby can create a new business line for 1388 was NEVER, NEVER in my mind until the topic of amber suddenly became hot a few months ago, and that inspired me (please read my last Joe Lee Says about PAVANE). Before I came out with my first amber tweaks - Pavane, occasionally the idea or something similar were suggested by some of my close friends during our drinking sessions. Even though I like the idea but building my own 'Joe Lee's Sound Tweaking products' and marketing them was simply too unimaginable. Am I ready, or good enough to do that? |
